Scarlet- This Was Always Meant To Fall Apart

Scarlet. What can I say about this band that has not already been said? To fit them in to a genre is almost impossible, I would say something along the lines of progressive metalcore? This album is probably one of my favourite albums to listen to, I can listen to it from front to back and not get sick of one part in any song. The range of the vocals, the catchy riffs, the heavy riffs, ALL of the riffs... Everything on this album is produced perfectly and it results in one of the best metal albums released to date. Crunchy, sludgy, melodic, demonic, angelic... The spectrum of songs on this album is impecable. The lyrics also really stand out, which is almost never the case in a metal/hardcore outfit. Regardless, you need to listen to this album, I don't care what kind of music you listen to... This album is amazing.

Number One Gun- The North Pole Project

Number One Gun; pop rock from Chico, California, was once an entire quartet... But on the North Pole Project, Jeff Schneeweis (frontman/songwriter of band)is left alone after all other band members have moved on to other musical endeavours. This CD was written and recorded entirely by Jeff, every song, every guitar track, every drum track, and so on and so forth (I'm assuming you get the point). An extremely endearing, and almost adventurous musical process has been left to create the album The North Pole Project, a pop rock sensation. The album is filled with catchy hooks, fun choruses, heart-felt ballads, songs you can fall asleep to, and even songs you can scream at the top of your lung... A must-listen-to-album, indeed.

Must listen to tracks: The Best Of You And Me, Wake Me Up, Bad Habits

Quotables:
"What have I done, I don't deserve this.
I can't get out of here, get out alive.
What have I followed, I'm right beside you, beside you.
I'm over it, I'm over it."

"It's a shame when you know when you know this. (Control this)
When you roll your eyes back in your head. (Control this)
Fall asleep again and you're wakened. (Control this)
By the sounds of your heart when it's broken. (Control this)"

Killing The Dream- Discography

I was going to decide which one of KTD's album was my favourite and then up/review it... But I realized I couldn't decide which one was my favourite... So here's all of them! Killing The Dream is great melodic hardcore from California, the angriest vocals, heavy guitar tone and some of the best lyrics, in my opinion. This band is probably one of my favourite hardcore bands and if you like super angry, melodic, catchy hardcore you NEED to download all of these albums. I honestly can't say which one is better than the other because they're all equally great. Check it out.

Quotables:
"But let these words ring out forever.
I'll scream until my last fucking breath.
Scratch these words in blood,
Until my heart runs dry."

"Nothing ever changes because everything was meant to fail."

"We're all fucked, so fuck it all"

"They call me a thief, nothing more than a thief."

"We found a home in the lowercase letters of words you'll never read and songs you'll never hear"

Figure Four- Suffering The Loss

Winnipeg, Manitoba's Figure Four is heavy, empowering and just plain ol' brutal. This album is filled with sing-alongs, chuggy riffs and breakdowns... But each open stroke just seems to come so naturally to these dudes (and girl). Featuring members of elite hardcore bands such as Comeback Kid and Shattered Realm, Figure Four definitely knows what it takes to make heavy music. For awhile in the early 00's these guys were a staple in Canadian hardcore, but with the success of other projects Figure Four definitely took a backseat and has been inactive for awhile now. "Suffering The Loss" is one of my favourite hardcore releases and definitely my favourite Figure Four release. Listen and enjoy.

Quotables:
"This is not how it ends. Don't fall to the lies.
He'll steal everything you love. He'll kill your heart and mind.
Fear of those who believe. The name will strike him down.
Realize and recognize. This is reality."

"This is not your war."

"Don't let me destroy myself."

Conditions- Conditions EP

Conditions is catchy, poppy rock music from Richmond, Virginia. This album is a well rounded creation of pop-rock with talented lead guitar riffs, catchy drum fills and top-notch vocals. It's super fun, easy to listen to and an all great album. Songs like "Keeping Pace With Planes" and "Before You Fight This Battle" are sure to be stuck in your head for days to come. For me, it's the perfect driving music and just so easy to listen to. If you like simple, fun, catchy music- make sure you check this album out.

Must listen to tracks- Keeping Pace With Planes, Our Way Home, Before You Fight This Battle

Project X- Straight Edge Revenge

An old classic. Straight edge hardcore that commands your attention, whether you'd like to give it or not. One of New York's most prominent straight edge outfit, Project X is in your face and won't hesitate to let you know what they think about drinking, drugs, sex or violence in hardcore. The band features members of bands like Judge, Youth Of Today, Gorilla Biscuits and Side by Side; more or less an all-star hardcore line-up. This is hardcore with meaning and a message, which seems to be few and far between these days. If only we could timewarp back to 1988....

Quotables:
"I'm as straight as the lines that you sniff up your nose.
And I'm as hard as the booze that you swill down your throat.
And I'm as bad as the shit you breath in to your lungs.
And I'll fuck you up as fast as that pill on your tongue."

"Dance floor justice, you're fucking dead."

Polar Bear Club- The Redder, The Better

This EP from the renowned Syracuse post-hardcore outfit brings almost everything to the table- catchiness, melody, a hint of heaviness here and there but in the perfect amount, so as not to overdue it. The lyrics are passionate and the vocals are powerful and strong, when need be, but also slow and soft, all coming together in the perfect musical explosion that is The Redder, The Better album. Listen to this if you don't expect to listen to anything else for the next couple of weeks.

Must listen to songs: Election Day, Resent And Resistance

Quotables:

Girl Talk- Feed The Animals

If there's one thing that's for sure about the latest album from the DJ who isn't a DJ, it's sure to have everybody moving. So many catchy mashups, it's hard to pick and choose exactly which ones are your favourite, some that stand out would be the new Konvict Music artist Dolla's single "Who The Fuck Is That" hook mixed with Avril Lavigne's annoying hit single "Girlfriend" on the track "Shut The Club Down". Another would be Blackstreet's classic hit "No Diggity" over the new, fresh Kanye West's "Flashing Lights" beat on the track "Still Here". This seemingly perfect party album provides non stop fun, catchy dance music, in which everybody can at least find something they recognize/enjoy.

The Dillinger Escape Plan- Calculating Infinity

This is an earlier album, but no less a classic, from New Jersey's tech metal giants The Dillinger Escape Plan. One of the best thorough listens I've heard in the genre, from top to bottom this album is pure genious, crazy time signatures meets in your face metal even combined with some funky jazz sounding parts at times. Arguably one of the best tech metal records released to date, in my opinion, at least. This is a great listen, and I really just wanted to up this so everyone can realize this band isn't as bad as the shit they've been releasing lately. Listen to this, get into it, love it.. Perfect.

A Textbook Tragedy- Intimidator

Finally, a metal outfit out of the country that Canadian's can be proud to call their own. This hard-hitting, heavy outfit out of Vancouver breaks through the gates with their debut album "Intimidator", a title that says it all. The title track gets the idea of the entire album across, a 6 minute song that ranges from low-end vocals with chuggy, "smash some-fucking-body" parts to melodic guitars and catchy singing vocals... A well rounded album made by a well rounded band.

Dangers- Anger

Fast, meaningful, passion driven hardcore straight out of California. These guys are making angry music that's just oh so hard to dislike. From thrashy, 1:00 minute songs (including voicemails from ex-girlfriends) like "Gashing In" to catchy, memorable tracks like "Power Chord Blues" that are easy to remember and hard to forget. Dangers also captures their audience's attention with their passionate lyrics that always seem to have a story behind them, lines like "I've heard you say wetback/I've heard you say beaner/And behind my back, probably call me a nigger/I don't love you/I don't even like you" can only leave a listener quesitoning what this song is actually about. If you're searching for fast, fun, good hardcore... Dangers is it.

Quotables:
"You sing the songs of hypocrites.
Like nuns with guns or chicks with dicks."

"Like a cell phone full of numbers but not one soul I want to call.
Just like half-read books read by well-read eyes that pretend to have read them all.
Like following a dream that cripples you with debt.
Like laughing at a joke that hasn't caught up with you yet."

"One black eye does not a blind man make.
There's more to fight than big mouth kids like me.
Punch my face until your fingers break.
It's time to fight the real enemy.
Anger ain't a mood, it's a goddamn way of life."
