Blacklisted- Our Youth Is Wasted EP

There's not much I can say about this band, the music basically speaks for itself. Hardcore, and dare I say a tiny bit of a bluesy influence? No, I won't... But you can sort of hear that, especially in the newer record which I will up at a later date. I know I say this a lot, but this band is one of my favourites. And this is also one of my favourite EP's that Blacklisted has put out. Angry music with great lyrics, well composed...
I could sing this band's praises for days.
Just listen to it and hear for yourself.

Quotables

"I faced an army of myself and I failed."

"Don't care about my generation.
Don't care if I stand or fall.
Don't care about my reputation.
I'm chasing aspirations I never saw."

Valencia- We All Need A Reason To Believe

This is the band's second full length. It's not necessarily leaps and bounds from their first album... But I'd definitely say this band has grown. A little bit more mature sounding, Valencia releases this cd with a little bit less of a powerpop feel and a little bit more of a rock sounding record. Could it be they're trying to go mainstream? Who knows. They still swear, so that's cool. One thing that turns me off from this record is a lot of the lyrics sounds super uplifting and positive, and it might just be the pessimist in me, but I usually like hearing sad and/or angry songs. I guess it's sort of hard to make depressing powerpop music, so I'll cut them some slack. Other than that, this is a solid cd.

A Rocket To The Moon- Greetings From...

So, to be honest, I don't really know much about this guy. I found his cd on this powerpop blogspot I check every now and then when I'm in the mood for catchy, fun music... And that's exactly what I found. From what I can gather, A Rocket To The Moon used to be one dude who just made acoustic/electro powerpop type stuff... But on his latest release, Greetings From..., he's recorded with an entire band. Although, there are some weak parts in the songs, for the most part this is super catchy, super good powerpop. Check it out, for sure.

This is just a quick up of their EP.
I already uploaded the full length so check that out, for sure.
Since this old and I believe self-released I can't find any album artwork or anything for it.
That just means that it's s00per r4r3 and you should all fall in love with it.
It's still offensive, it's still thrashy, and it's still fun!

But seriously here you go!

Breather Resist- Only In The Morning

Breather Resist, although a short-lived span in the music industry had a huge impact on a lot of bands that you're hearing today.
Brutal, techy, progressive metalcore.
This CD is probably one of my favourite to put on and listen to in its entirety, and with a run time of like 18 minutes or something like that, it's certainly not hard to stay interested.
Brutal metalcore that you need to listen to.
This band is so under-rated and slept on that when I mentioned Young Widows (a couple of the members' new project) as an Ex- Breather Resist band, some people draw a blank.
It's depressing.
So, educate yourself.
Get into this band, for my sake...
And eventually for your sake, as well.
GREAT band, one of my favourites.

Gatsby's American Dream- Volcano

Alright, so I know I've kind of been slacking on this whole music blog thing...
But here's a band you really need to check out.
I remember getting a sampler of a bunch of record labels from some skatepark when I was like... 14 or something, and this band was on there.
This isn't the album that I first really got into, but it's nonetheless a great album.
Super catchy, super rocky, I wouldn't really even consider it poppy... I guess that his vocals are a little bit, but the music itself is just fun, rock music.
I've literally had this CD, amongst a few of their others, on repeat for past week and a bit.
It's extrememly relaxing at times, but also upbeat and fun at others.
Such a good band, and I'll probably upload some of their other cds at a later date.
Check them out!

Walls Of Jericho- All Hail The Dead

This is going back to when female fronted Walls Of Jericho was actually releasing quality music... If you've heard their newer records, you'll no exactly what I'm talking about, it all sounds like shitty, thrashy, nu-metal (and not cool, fun thrashy... Bad thrashy). But if you've generalized this band as shitty on account of their newer stuff, I defnitely wouldn't blame you, but don't hesitate to check this album out, it's older, heavier and just tons of fun, in general. This is definitely the last good record this band has released, but it's not the only one. If you're into this you can also check out some of their pre-All Hail The Dead such as Bound Feed The Gagged. One thing I HATE about this album is in a couple of songs Candice sings over her yelling and it sounds awullll. If only this band was still making music like this, I might actually spend money to go see them when they come through.

Must Listen To Tracks: A Little Piece Of Me

The Almost- Southern Weather

So, I haven't uploaded anything soft in awhile, so here it is. The Almost is a side project of Aaron Gillespie, the drummer of Underoath, and it's a little bit softer, well it's a lot softer than what Underoath has most recently released. The album is passionate and great to listen to. My only beef with the album is that it's kind of overly-Christian... But so is most of the stuff Underoath has released. Now, I don't listen to Underoath THAT much but on this record he uses the word "Jesus" a lot... I'm not really into that. But the record, that aside, is really good.

Until The End- Blood In The Ink

Another necessity in a hardcore fan's album collection, this album features renowned vocalist Mean Pete who has more recently sang for metalcore outfits such as Remembering Never and (unfortunately) xBishopx. This is brutal, straight forward, in your face straight edge hardcore. It's heavy and the heaviness doesn't stop from track 1 to track 10, this whole cd is just straight up... Well, for a lack of better words, straight up heavy. Hands down, Until The End is one of the most recognized and respected hardcore/metal outfits. So check this album out, it's worth it, trust me.

Quotables:
"Drive nails through my wrists, I'll die for my beliefs.
Push them into the wounds, I'll die for my beliefs.
This world won't break me, I'll die for my beliefs."

"There is nothing between us but oceans of bad blood."

Converge- Jane Doe, When Forever Comes Crashing, Petitioning The Empty Sky, You Fail Me & No Heroes

So, this isn't as much of a discography of Converge, moreso than it is just a collection of the albums I have on my computer. I've never really gotten into anything pre the earlier albums I have here, because I find it's a pretty large acquired taste. They've also released copious amounts of splits, vinyls, EP's so to generalize anything Converge has a discography is kind of hard... But these are a couple of full lengths. They've been around since 1991, but I'm only showing you a portion of some of the music they've released as the first release I'm uploading is from 1997. Anyways, Converge is another one of my favourites, hands down one of the best progressive metalcore bands of our time (and also one of the first). These albums have laid the tracks for so many other bands and inspired generations of musical listeners to open their ears to new sounds. I don't think anyone who's in to metalcore/hardcore as a genre should have an iTunes Library without these albums. So go ahead, download them, check them all out.

A MINISCULE amount of songs you should listen to: Towing Jehovah, Colour Me Blood Red, Buried But Breathing, Last Light, The Broken Vow, The Saddest Day, Plagues, Orphaned (To name a few)

Also, don't even get me started on Quotables, this band's lyrics are amazing, there's way too many even to narrow it down to just a couple.

Anyways, here's the albums (in chronological order)

Bateman- The Love And War EP

Anybody who has read the book American Psycho would be able to make the association between the name of this band and the man character in that novel, Patrick Bateman... Although, I am not a large fan of the book, I can honestly say I'm a large fan of this band. Hardcore that isn't too thrashy, isn't too chuggy but is a great combination of mid-tempo riffs and great build ups with extremely angry vocals. It kind of reminds me of a less fast, less spanish More To Pride with a hint of Figure Four, as well... So if you're in to those two bands, check this band out... I definitely wouldn't suggest it solely for fans of the novel American Psycho, either... So readers of American Psycho, beware..
This band might not be for you.

Sluts- Sluts

Melodic angry hardcore from.. Only God knows where. I recently just found this band via another music blog that I go on every now and then and I've Myspace searched them/googled them and I really haven't been able to find that much information on this band! But, mysteriousness aside, this band plays some pretty rad music, not necessarily fast, not necessarily slow, but angry, passionate, and all around enjoyable music. I find the name of the band sort of "gimmicky", if you may... But it definitely caught my eye searching throuh the blog lists, and when I downloaded it I was most definitely not let down at all. Also, I'm really feeling the lyrics, tons of quotables and parts that just get stuck in my head... If I'm totally way behind on this band and everybody else has already heard of them... Then bummer, but good on you for being on top of the game.
Anyways, check it out.

Sound The Alarm- Stay Inside

Sound The Alarm is a hidden gem I found, I'm not sure how many people actually know about this band, but I've had this Stay Inside album on my computer for about a year now and I can honestly put it on whenever and I've yet to get sick of it. Catchy pop rock with fun vocals that's just super easy on the ears. This is a very good cd for just having in the car or listening to in the morning, fun, catchy, happy music. CHeck it out.

Kingdoms- Atlantis EP

The newest band out of the gates of Southern Ontario, this band has created a lot of hype for themselves and with the release of their Atlantis EP online (finally), they've definitely lived up to the hype. Tight musicianship, and a great balance of low end screaming vocals and harmonized melodies. This band is sure to have you singing along by the end of the EP, I've barely even listened to and I can pick and choose the parts that I've already got memorized. Although, it is a very well put together CD, the lyrics just don't do it for me, lines like "One more yellow brick through your windshield" and "Dressing in black is becomind a habit", seem over-pretentious and as though they are trying to accomplish much more than what they actually are. That aside, though, great listen. Help these guys out and come out to their debut show in Kitchener on the 24th of October with my great friends in Lifestory:monologue, it should be a great time.

Beloved- Failure On

The definition of great rock music. Beloved combines melody with heaviness in the perfect essence of heavy rock. This album is a great listen, through and through; well produced, well written, and just all around good music. There's not much to say about this album other than the fact that it's great, check it out.

Bring Me The Horizon- Suicide Season

This album is gigantic leap for this band, from crappy death metal, to catchy, chuggy, heavy, fun metalcore. This is probably one of my favourite releases of the year so far, I've only had it for about a week and the play counts on my iTunes are already reaching upwards of 30 for each song. If you like really fun, generic, music, listen to this album. I'll be honest, it's nothing new or groundbreaking, but it's heavy and catchy, exactly what I look for in the majority of the music I listen to. The lyrics are also a little lacking in substance, but what they lack in substance, they make up for in catchiness. If you're looking for a mindless album that makes you want to hurt people... This is it.

Quotables-
"If I had it my way, I'd slit your throat with the knife that you left in my back."

"Party til you pass out, drink til you're dead, dance all night til you can't feel your legs."

Scarlet- This Was Always Meant To Fall Apart

Scarlet. What can I say about this band that has not already been said? To fit them in to a genre is almost impossible, I would say something along the lines of progressive metalcore? This album is probably one of my favourite albums to listen to, I can listen to it from front to back and not get sick of one part in any song. The range of the vocals, the catchy riffs, the heavy riffs, ALL of the riffs... Everything on this album is produced perfectly and it results in one of the best metal albums released to date. Crunchy, sludgy, melodic, demonic, angelic... The spectrum of songs on this album is impecable. The lyrics also really stand out, which is almost never the case in a metal/hardcore outfit. Regardless, you need to listen to this album, I don't care what kind of music you listen to... This album is amazing.

Number One Gun- The North Pole Project

Number One Gun; pop rock from Chico, California, was once an entire quartet... But on the North Pole Project, Jeff Schneeweis (frontman/songwriter of band)is left alone after all other band members have moved on to other musical endeavours. This CD was written and recorded entirely by Jeff, every song, every guitar track, every drum track, and so on and so forth (I'm assuming you get the point). An extremely endearing, and almost adventurous musical process has been left to create the album The North Pole Project, a pop rock sensation. The album is filled with catchy hooks, fun choruses, heart-felt ballads, songs you can fall asleep to, and even songs you can scream at the top of your lung... A must-listen-to-album, indeed.

Must listen to tracks: The Best Of You And Me, Wake Me Up, Bad Habits

Quotables:
"What have I done, I don't deserve this.
I can't get out of here, get out alive.
What have I followed, I'm right beside you, beside you.

"It's a shame when you know when you know this. (Control this)

Killing The Dream- Discography

I was going to decide which one of KTD's album was my favourite and then up/review it... But I realized I couldn't decide which one was my favourite... So here's all of them! Killing The Dream is great melodic hardcore from California, the angriest vocals, heavy guitar tone and some of the best lyrics, in my opinion. This band is probably one of my favourite hardcore bands and if you like super angry, melodic, catchy hardcore you NEED to download all of these albums. I honestly can't say which one is better than the other because they're all equally great. Check it out.

Quotables:
"But let these words ring out forever.
I'll scream until my last fucking breath.
Scratch these words in blood,
Until my heart runs dry."

"Nothing ever changes because everything was meant to fail."

"We're all fucked, so fuck it all"

Figure Four- Suffering The Loss

Winnipeg, Manitoba's Figure Four is heavy, empowering and just plain ol' brutal. This album is filled with sing-alongs, chuggy riffs and breakdowns... But each open stroke just seems to come so naturally to these dudes (and girl). Featuring members of elite hardcore bands such as Comeback Kid and Shattered Realm, Figure Four definitely knows what it takes to make heavy music. For awhile in the early 00's these guys were a staple in Canadian hardcore, but with the success of other projects Figure Four definitely took a backseat and has been inactive for awhile now. "Suffering The Loss" is one of my favourite hardcore releases and definitely my favourite Figure Four release. Listen and enjoy.

Quotables:
"This is not how it ends. Don't fall to the lies.
He'll steal everything you love. He'll kill your heart and mind.
Fear of those who believe. The name will strike him down.

Conditions- Conditions EP

Conditions is catchy, poppy rock music from Richmond, Virginia. This album is a well rounded creation of pop-rock with talented lead guitar riffs, catchy drum fills and top-notch vocals. It's super fun, easy to listen to and an all great album. Songs like "Keeping Pace With Planes" and "Before You Fight This Battle" are sure to be stuck in your head for days to come. For me, it's the perfect driving music and just so easy to listen to. If you like simple, fun, catchy music- make sure you check this album out.

Do you know how to live any other way?
(Come closer now, we're getting closer now)"

"I know this feeling's heaven sent.
And I am so confident.
I will regain my sanity when goodbye's a memory."

Project X- Straight Edge Revenge

An old classic. Straight edge hardcore that commands your attention, whether you'd like to give it or not. One of New York's most prominent straight edge outfit, Project X is in your face and won't hesitate to let you know what they think about drinking, drugs, sex or violence in hardcore. The band features members of bands like Judge, Youth Of Today, Gorilla Biscuits and Side by Side; more or less an all-star hardcore line-up. This is hardcore with meaning and a message, which seems to be few and far between these days. If only we could timewarp back to 1988....

Quotables:
"I'm as straight as the lines that you sniff up your nose.
And I'm as hard as the booze that you swill down your throat.
And I'm as bad as the shit you breath in to your lungs.
And I'll fuck you up as fast as that pill on your tongue."

"Dance floor justice, you're fucking dead."

Polar Bear Club- The Redder, The Better

This EP from the renowned Syracuse post-hardcore outfit brings almost everything to the table- catchiness, melody, a hint of heaviness here and there but in the perfect amount, so as not to overdue it. The lyrics are passionate and the vocals are powerful and strong, when need be, but also slow and soft, all coming together in the perfect musical explosion that is The Redder, The Better album. Listen to this if you don't expect to listen to anything else for the next couple of weeks.

Must listen to songs: Election Day, Resent And Resistance

Quotables:
"The clock struck twelve two hours ago.
Time flies when you're stuck in last year."

Girl Talk- Feed The Animals

If there's one thing that's for sure about the latest album from the DJ who isn't a DJ, it's sure to have everybody moving. So many catchy mashups, it's hard to pick and choose exactly which ones are your favourite, some that stand out would be the new Konvict Music artist Dolla's single "Who The Fuck Is That" hook mixed with Avril Lavigne's annoying hit single "Girlfriend" on the track "Shut The Club Down". Another would be Blackstreet's classic hit "No Diggity" over the new, fresh Kanye West's "Flashing Lights" beat on the track "Still Here". This seemingly perfect party album provides non stop fun, catchy dance music, in which everybody can at least find something they recognize/enjoy.

The Dillinger Escape Plan- Calculating Infinity

This is an earlier album, but no less a classic, from New Jersey's tech metal giants The Dillinger Escape Plan. One of the best thorough listens I've heard in the genre, from top to bottom this album is pure genious, crazy time signatures meets in your face metal even combined with some funky jazz sounding parts at times. Arguably one of the best tech metal records released to date, in my opinion, at least. This is a great listen, and I really just wanted to up this so everyone can realize this band isn't as bad as the shit they've been releasing lately. Listen to this, get into it, love it.. Perfect.

A Textbook Tragedy- Intimidator

Finally, a metal outfit out of the country that Canadian's can be proud to call their own. This hard-hitting, heavy outfit out of Vancouver breaks through the gates with their debut album "Intimidator", a title that says it all. The title track gets the idea of the entire album across, a 6 minute song that ranges from low-end vocals with chuggy, "smash some-fucking-body" parts to melodic guitars and catchy singing vocals... A well rounded album made by a well rounded band.

Dangers- Anger

Fast, meaningful, passion driven hardcore straight out of California. These guys are making angry music that's just oh so hard to dislike. From thrashy, 1:00 minute songs (including voicemails from ex-girlfriends) like "Gashing In" to catchy, memorable tracks like "Power Chord Blues" that are easy to remember and hard to forget. Dangers also captures their audience's attention with their passionate lyrics that always seem to have a story behind them, lines like "I've heard you say wetback/I've heard you say beaner/And behind my back, probably call me a nigger/I don't love you/I don't even like you" can only leave a listener quesitoning what this song is actually about. If you're searching for fast, fun, good hardcore... Dangers is it.

Quotables:
"You sing the songs of hypocrites.
Like nuns with guns or chicks with dicks."

"Like a cell phone full of numbers but not one soul I want to call.
Just like half-read books read by well-read eyes that pretend to have read them all.
Like following a dream that cripples you with debt.
Like laughing at a joke that hasn't caught up with you yet."

"One black eye does not a blind man make.
There's more to fight than big mouth kids like me.
Punch my face until your fingers break.
It's time to fight the real enemy.
Anger ain't a mood, it's a goddamn way of life."
